Diethylene glycol (DEG) is a colorless, practically odorless, and hygroscopic liquid with a sweetish taste¹². It is a four carbon dimer of ethylene glycol and is miscible in water, alcohol, ether, acetone, and ethylene glycol¹. DEG is a widely used solvent and is commonly used in the commercial preparation of antifreeze, brake fluid, cigarettes, and some dyes².
